The mortice deadlock, often referred to as a 'Chubb lock' is one of the most common locks in the UK, and is found on most external house or flat doors.  People sometimes call a mortise lock a 'security lock' or 'double lock'.  A mortise deadlock usually has a keyhole on both sides, and is operated with a lever type key, sometimes incorrectly described as a 'jailer key' or 'skeleton key'.

A mortice deadlock will often have a manufacturors name or other information engraved on it, on the metal plate on the edge of the door (only visible when the door is open).  Common names are Union, Chubb, Securefast, ERA, Keepsafe, York, Asec, Legge.  Sometimes there is nothing engraved, or it is too painted over to read, so don't worry if you can't see any words.

Whatever make of lock you have, we can upgrade it to a 5-lever, insurance approved deadlock.  We select the most appropriate make and size to suit the hole where your old lock was fitted, and to ensure the best fit and cosmetic appearance, and our locks conform to British Standard 3621:2004.
